The CDYS Rathcormac Youth Club was set up in May 2006. The club meet in Rathcormac Community Centre every Friday night at 8.30-10pm, during the school term.
The youth of the parish (currently 55 members between the ages of 12-16) meet and socialise here in a safe and supervised environment. Various activities are organised during the year such as trips to the cinema, bowling, swimming pool, drug talks, art and crafts nights, DVD nights and self defense courses, to mention but a few.
The popularity of the club has grown, especially since with the ever-expanding youth population in the village. Also of note, is the dedication of the leaders and parents who give their time to supervise and organise the activities of the club.
As a culminating activity this year, the group took part in a residential trip to Kilfinane Outdoor Education Centre, Co.Limerick this June 27th and 28th. There was an excellent opportunity for the club members to undertake team activities and events such as rock climbing, orienteering and kayaking. The overnight stay allowed for an excellent occasion where the youth of our parish worked together and strengthened their friendships and our community. This trip was made possible thanks to funding received from the Irish Youth Foundation.
The club was among 25 youth groups from across the country to share in a 45,000 euros funding windfall for bodies working with children and young people. The grant was made by the Irish Youth Foundation, a fundraising charity dedicated to providing positive opportunities for thousands of children and young people all over Ireland.
