CDYS Gouldshill, Mallow

Tel: 022 21812
Special Project for Youth are based in the Big Blue Cube in Gouldshill and Mallow Youth Centres with funding by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. These projects work with young people, aged 5 to 18 years old, who are most in need of intervention, support and activities. SPY engages with young people, building up appropriate relationships and works with them on individual needs in small focused, creative groups, or on a one to one basis. This project values young people and their involvement in the project and recognises the need to be flexible, resourceful and creative in how it responds to young people.

CDYS Gouldshill is the newest project in CDYS and is buzzing with activity.

In partnership with Cork County Council, CDYS took over the managing of this shiny new centre in September 2013. Since then, the centre is bursting with activities.

The centre serves the residential area in which it is located, as well as many young people living on the Southside of Mallow town.

Play Therapy

Play Therapy is a therapeutic intervention, facilitated by a highly trained therapist, that makes use of the child or young person’s own resources including their imagination to help them gain a better understanding of their feelings and situations. It uses a variety of play and creative arts methods to address from mild / moderate issues to chronic emotional conditions and mental health problems in young people.

Do you know any child or young person experiencing any of these difficulties?

  • Difficulties maintaining healthy social relationships
  • Increased aggression or acting out behaviour
  • Difficulty concentrating in school
  • Becoming withdrawn, being bullied
  • Becoming anxious when separating from families
  • Having nightmares/ wetting the bed

Play therapy can help children who have special needs, have developed an illness, experienced trauma, loss, bereavement, family separation or who have been abused
