Youth Work Ireland National Conference at Dublin Castle

Young people are calling for their voices to be heard on the Nation Taskforce

Young people from CDYS Mallow and Fermoy met with Minister for Children  and Youth Affairs, Katherine Zappone at the Youth Work Ireland National Conference at Dublin Castle and also held a panel discussion with  Minister of State for Mental Health and Older People Helen McEntee.

This Wellbeing squad challenged  Minister McEntee about the budget cuts to mental health and asked that services be improved at community level.  Oisin Donoghue of our Youth Council challenged the minister at the conference on why young people were not represented on the National Taskforce on Youth Mental health.

The advisory panel , which was set up by the Minister of State for Mental Health Helen McEntee earlier this year, features numerous youth representative organisations but no seats were given to young people. Oisin Donoghue said “I think it would be very helpful because there’s probably a lack of communication between the younger people and the Ministers, and it would be just kind of useful for both sides so we can understand a little bit better what’s going on.”
