Dillon Lynch up for the challenge

23 Down 9 To Go
Dillon at Truskmore (Sligo CHP)
Dillon completes Kildare, on the way home from Donegal after also completing Donegal, Tyrone, Derry, Monaghan over a weeks holidays.

The 32 County High Point Challenge is often one set for themselves by seasoned hill walkers. That young Dillon Lynch from Kildorrey has just 9 counties left to complete the challenge is remarkable in itself because Dillon is just nine years old.

Dillons Father Pat told us “We really only focused on the challenge in June of last year after checking out some walks to do while on holidays in West Cork. One that we climbed there was Knockboy (Corks highest) and having already having Galtymore done (Tipperary and Limericks highest) we were well on our way and started looking for others. Then we discovered that it was something that others had done and decided to have a go at it. It was only recently that we decided to use it as a fundraiser.Dillon is 9, from Kildorrery and does Karate with Kildorrery Karate club. He does coder dojo classes in Mallow since last September and loves them. He is also a keen cyclist and has recently started coming to the Ballyhoura Bike Trails with me.”

Discovering the challenge was accidental while searching the internet for mountains to Climb in West Cork while on holidays in the area. At that time I had already climbed Galtymore which meant after climbing Knockboy in Cork only Kerry and Clare remained to complete the counties of Munster. This became a goal for 2015 and was completed by September that year. That summer Lugnagulla (Wicklow) and Kippure (Dublin) were also completed, staring off Leinster too.
The challenge resumed in 2016 by completing Arderin, the highest point of Laois and Offaly, bringing the count to 10 out of 32 counties completed.
In May 2016 it was decided to use the challenge to try and raise funds for Kildorrery Karate and Cloyne Diocesan Youth Services (CDYS)

Dillon has a Facebook Page showing his progress with the challenge. If you would like to sponsor Dillon, sponsorship cards are available from John Dunlea at the Big Blue Cube (086 0805400 john@cdys.ie) the Lynch Family, and Members of the Kildorrey Karate Club.
